If you have uploaded your own image, you can make adjustments to the size and placement through our customization tool.

Specialty Add-Ons

3D Embroidery

Some elements in your design can be raised for a 3D effect. This works best with larger and thicker design elements.
Raised embroidery on text elements works best with bold, wide letters. Fine details and thin lettering will not meet our quality control standards for raised embroidery.
To add raised embroidery to your order,please add “3D Embroidery” in the order notes.
As Design Professionals, we will determine if a design can or cannot be raised. In the event that no element of the design can be raised, we will notice you.
Raised designs can only be done on the front of the hats. The side and back of hats do not have a big enough area to do raised at a high quality.

Specialty Thread

Another feature that can highlight designs is the use of specialty threads. These do not work for everything, but they can add some enhanced features. If this is something you are interested in please add “Specialty Thread” in the comment section.
Here are some specialty threads we offer.
Metallic (Gold, Silver, Copper, Black, Red, Royal Blue, Pink, Green, White, and Purple)

Common Issues to Avoid

Small Text: For best results, text should be no smaller than 0.2” in height and should have a minimum thickness of 0.08”.
Front Designs: For best results, keep front embroidery text limited to 3 lines and no more than 20 characters.
Side/Back Designs: Space is limited for side and back embroidery. For best results, keep your designs to a maximum of 1.7” tall and 2.8” wide. It is best to keep text shorter than 10 characters per line, with a maximum of 2 lines.
Details and Fine Lines: Fine lines and small details do not always work well with hat embroidery. Some fine lines and small details will be eliminated or made thicker to create a better product.
Blending/Shading: Blending and shading is accomplished by placing one thread color on top of another thread color. Subtle changes and blending are difficult to achieve with embroidery thread.
The best quality embroidery is accomplished with solid lines and colors. We do not recommend blending or shading in your customization project.
Negative Space/Gaps/Abstract: Negative space can cause issues with embroidery designs. For best results, we recommend filling in negative space with a color that complements your design.
Large Solid Backgrounds: If a logo covers a large area with a solid background, it can cause distortion in the hat or fabric. If this occurs with your design, our customization team will make suggestions to get the best results with your embroidery.

Text too small, lines too thin

Avoid using very small letters because the embroidered text might not be legible. Keep the text at least 0.25'' in height and at least 0.05'' thick.
The minimum recommended line thickness for the regular satin stitch is 0.05''. For thinner lines we’ll use run stitch (a single line of stitches).
You can measure the text in Illustrator either by using the measuring tool, or by converting the font point size to inches.
You can do this by going to: File > Preferences > Units > General > Inches
0.25'' is equivalent to approximately 36pt, and the letters will also have the necessary thickness. But this depends on the font.
We recommend using simple fonts like Arial, Helvetica, Myriad pro.

Text too small, lines too thin

Distressed or Textured Graphics

With distressed or textured graphics many details might be lost during embroidery depending on the texture size. For these files, we’ll only be able to use flat embroidery, and extremely thin parts are likely to be run stitched.

Negative Space Objects

These are the empty spaces in the artwork - the hat fabric showing through the design (but don’t mix it up with transparent background, which is alright!). This can cause several problems.

Avoid these issues by filling the negative spaces with another color.

Distressed or Textured Graphics

Gradients

With standard embroidery, we can only embroider solid shapes and colors. Gradients won’t work because we can’t create smooth transitions from one color to another.
You’ll have to replace gradients with solid colors.
If you want gradients in your embroidery design, use unlimited color embroidery instead.

Solid Backgrounds

Graphics that cover a large part of the embroidery area will likely exceed the maximum stitch count of 15,000. Remove all backgrounds from your files to make sure they don't exceed this count.
If you’d like to keep the background, we’ll have to reduce the size of the graphic by up to 50%.

Photographic Images

It’s not possible to embroider photographic images as they are. Photographic images have to be recreated to include solid shapes and colors.

3D Puff Embroidery

Use bold shapes and text. Graphics that don’t meet the minimum object thickness will not be possible to embroider in 3D puff. Some fonts like calligraphy simply won’t work for 3D puff. For 3D puff embroidery, please make sure that all lines are between 0.2" and 0.5" to give a good-quality outcome.

Side Embroidery

The area for side embroidery is smaller than in the front. Include up to 10 characters per line in your text to make sure that the final result looks great.
